A: Social Security has the state Disability Determination Services (DDS) office gather the information and review your medical records. Because they evaluate all of your medical records and evidence, they sometimes need to contact your previous workplace and speak with your employer or co-workers – people who know how your condition affects your work life. They are allowed to call you and people you have told them about on your application in order to review your claim thoroughly.
