Canon City man killed in I-25 rollover crash

Last Saturday, the Trinidad Times reports, 33-year old Hazen Whittaker, driving a 2003 Saturn southbound on I-25, lost control of his car just south of the Hoehne exit, north of Trinidad. As the car drove off the left side of the road the driver steered the car back to the right. The Saturn then made another left turn and left the southbound lane again, rotating and finally rolling over two and a half times when it hit the median grass. Mr. Whittaker, from Canon City, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), the driver wore a seatbelt and excess speed is likely to be a primary cause of the accident.

This rollover crash brings the toll of traffic accident fatalities to six in the last twelve months in Las Animas County, according to the CSP. Most victims were killed in single car accidents and rollovers.
