Car-truck crash in Northern Colorado reminds us: don't stand in the way of a large truck

Scott Barnard was killed Thursday evening when his van hit a semi-trailer at the intersection of Weld County Road 100 and US 85, north of Nunn. Barnard had entered the intersection without pausing at the stop sign and, after hitting the left side fuel tank of the truck, was ejected from his van and died at the scene, according to the Greeley Tribune. The truck driver was not injured.

According to the Colorado State Patrol Barnard was not wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol or drugs are suspected to have contributed to the accident.

Apart from the obvious comments about the dangers of not wearing a seatbelt and driving under the influence, the tragic death of Scott Barnard reminds us all that the size and weight of big rigs make them potentially devastating.
