Driver faces child abuse charges in Colorado Springs car accident

On April 1, 2010 KKTV reported a car accident in Colorado Springs on North Chestnut Street and Vondel Park Drive. The police officers that first arrived on scene suspected that speeding and alcohol may have been factors in this accident and involved the Major Accident Unit to investigate this crash for a possible DUI offense.

Witnesses reported that the 2003 Saturn was going approximately 60 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. The investigation concluded that the vehicle was speeding while traveling south on Chestnut Street and lost control sliding into north bound lanes and forcibly hit a guard rail.

The female driver, front passenger and child were all taken to the local hospital for evaluation and treatment. It appeared the passenger was not wearing her seat belt and hit her head on the front windshield, seriously injuring her face. The child was sitting in the back of the car in a secured car seat and is being evaluated for possible injuries.

The driver faces several charges including Driving Under the Influence, Child Abuse, and Reckless Endangerment. Colorado Springs car accidents can cause serious injuries especially when alcohol is involved.
